2008 Evolution

Mitsubishi

The 2008 Lancer Evolution sports an all new 291-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged and intercooled engine and the Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) dynamic handling system. S-AWC regulates drive torque at each wheel by controlling a network of dynamic handling technologies, including: Active Center Differential (ACD) 4-wheel drive, Active Yaw Control (AYC) rear differential, Active Stability Control (ASC), and Sport ABS brakes. Integration of ASC is new for all markets. A helical gear-type limited-slip front differential is used.

Mitsubishi AWD Choices

The basic all-new Lancer platform – already stiffer than the previous-generation Lancer Evolution IX – is further reinforced for the 2008 Lancer Evolution. The roof, hood, front fenders and both the front and rear bumper beams are aluminum. The battery and windshield washer fluid tank are mounted in the trunk area for better weight distribution. No other Lancer models are available with AWD.

In the crossover world, the Outlander is built on the same platform as the new Dodge Caliber/Jeep Liberty . Since Mitsubishi bought out Chrysler's stake in the Japanese firm in the last decade, the 2 companies have worked together on a contractual basis. So, while the Outlander shares basics with Caliber and Jeep Liberty, there are still significant departures. Slightly larger, but also unibody based, is the crossover Endeavor.
2006 Lancer Evolution 2 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution models will be offered in the U.S. for 2008: the GSR with a new 5-speed manual transmission and the Lancer Evolution MR with a new 6- speed Twin-Clutch Sportronic Shift Transmission (TCSST), an automated manual transmission with magnesium steering wheel shifter paddles and a console shifter. The MR is also equipped exclusively with Bilstein shock absorbers and Eibach springs, 2-piece brake rotors, BBS wheels, HID headlamps and Bluetooth wireless capability. GSR base price is still not available as of 1/18/2008.
2008 Outlander The Mitsubishi Outlander is now limited to 2 basic versions; the LS and XLS, although the "Compare" section of the Mitsubishi site still shows an ES variant with a 168hp 2.4 liter in-line 4 cyl. engine. Both LS and XLS have AWD options. Both LS and XLS are powered by an aluminum 3 liter V6 that makes 220 hp, and are backed up by a 6 speed automatic transmission. LS equipped Outlanders with the AWD option start at $23,870
Note: this has been called noisy and sloppy by some reviewers, with illegible guages in daylight.
2008 Endeavor The marginally larger Mitsubishi Endeavor SUV has AWD options on both the LS and SE versions. Both are equipped with 4 speed automatic transmissions behind a 225hp 3.8liter V6 powerplant. In terms of interior seating space, the Outlander is as big as the Endeavor, but gives up about 10% in cargo volume. The AWD Endeavor SE is priced from
$29,099.
